To hide or not to hide that is the question....

First of all I want say I hope everyone had a very happy Easter today. We had a good day even though we had to wear our winter coats to church today. We went to Grandma and Grandpa for lunch and no Easter lunch is complete unless you have the bunny cake that Grandma makes. After lunch, we took the girls to David's aunts house for an egg hunt. They had a ball! Liv got one of the "golden eggs" with $5.00 -- other eggs had money in them too but the "golden eggs" had the most.

Now to my question, but let me preface by saying that we never really talked about the Easter Bunny to the girls and up until 2 days ago I didn't even know Olivia thought the EB brings the baskets. Tonight though she knows Mommy and Daddy gives them the baskets and no there wasn't anyone that told her she just figured it out. It really took me by surprise because she thanked me for something in the basket and our conversation just took its course. Anyway back to the question. Growing up our baskets were always just placed on the table waiting for us when we woke up. I was talking to my friend yesterday and she commented that she was going to leave an egg with 1 piece of chocolate with a note from the EB that they would be able to "hunt" for their baskets when they got home from church. I asked what do you mean "hunt for their basket, isn't it on the table when they come downstairs?" Well you would have thought I asked if her hair was pink. LOL She thought that everyone hunted for their basket and just couldn't believe that I had no idea what she was talking about. I did hide the girls baskets today but Olivia is such a nosey girl that she found hers before they were even allowed to look. So my question is -- do you hide the baskets or not? Leave me a comment as I truly want to know what others are doing and/or what you grew up doing and why.

  1. Our Easter baskets have always been on the fireplace hearth - where mine were when I was little. The Easter Bunny does leave a trail of eggs leading from their rooms to the basket just like when I was a kid. Santa, however, will sometimes leave clues and we have to follow them to find an extra special present - and again, he did that when I was little too.

  2. I did hide Linlee's basket yesterday and she was quite thrilled when she discovered it (she didn't even know she was supposed to be looking for a basket, really). When I was little, there was usually a trail of jelly beans that let to our baskets hidden somewhere in the house. It was always very exciting to discover where the trail would lead.

  3. Nope. We don't hide the baskets. The kids have enough problems making it to the family room without falling asleep again. Seeing the baskets waiting for them is the only way I can get them awake enough to get ready for church! We do hide the eggs.

My basket was never hidden as a child. Neither was Andy's.

  4. We don't hide the baskets, and never had them hidden as a child. My kids all know we put the baskets together, that the 'Easter bunny' isn't real. (We want our kids to know we will tell them the truth 100% of the time)

  5. We don't hide ours either, but I may have to hide the boys' next year as the girls decided to make off with all 4 of them before the boys were even awake! :o

  6. We don't hide the baskets - I did not when I was little, and I do not think my husband's family did either.
We do hide eggs, and would have needed coats this year, but we did it inside. Even being in southern PA, it was still too cold!

  7. We don't hide the baskets - like you, they are on the table when the girls get up. As a child, our baskets were on the table as well. They totally enjoy the egg hunt around the house and know it is us hiding the eggs.

  8. Our Baskets have always been hidden. We leave out our special baskets the evening before on the kitchen table, the Easter Bunny comes, fills them and hides them along with our Easter eggs.
