Sophia and her speech

I have been concerned about Sophia and her speech for some time now. At 20 months she only says 5 words. KY has an early intervention program called First Steps. Well, I contacted them and she had her evaluation today. They checked not only her speech but also her fine motor skills, development and a few other things. She excelled at everything but speech so she will be getting some speech therapy in the near future. Now, I have the daunting task of finding a speech therapist on their list.

  1. Hey Bec!
Glad to hear it went well. Let me know how the speech therapy goes!
    Later!

  2. Wow, we have a lot in common! Not only did our little girls come from the same orphanage, neither of them are very chatty! We'll have to compare notes once they are both in speech therapy.

  3. I have made an appointment to get Annslee evaluated too. She is 22 months and says maybe 8 words (and that is not consistent) but hey, I figure our girls are just too busy doing other stuff : )

  4. I am sure she will make some big leaps when she starts with the therapy.

Our older daughter had some speech sessions (before we moved to Europe and really confused her!) and now speaks very well. Our lovebug, at 18m, says about 5 words. She is delayed, but we are giving her some time to catch up. (just moved into our new home in the USA so want to let her get settled first) She really babbles a lot and knows animal sounds, so she is heading in the right direction.

But many other families from our travel group say their daughters speech is about the same,so maybe they all just need a little more time.

    Pretty soon they'll be talking
non-stop and we'll wonder why we ever worried!!
